If you’re in those first few months of the honeymoon phase or you’re looking for a night off from taking care of the kids, you have a wide range of options to enjoy a beautiful, romantic date night outdoors in Oklahoma City. Whether you love sports, art, animals, or adrenaline-fueled activities, you’ll find an Oklahoma City activity or attraction that suits you and your date best listed in the options we’ve provided in this article.

Check out some of our favorite outdoor date ideas in Oklahoma City, and experience something new with the person you love.

Spend a Day at Frontier City Amusement Park

If you get a pass to Frontier City Amusement Park, you can spend the whole day indulging in good old carnival fun. Get a thrill by riding the roller coasters, take it easy in the lazy river and wave pool, and fuel up with some good old-fashioned carnival food and classic hot dogs. After an exciting day of enjoying the rides, you can end the night holding your date’s hand while watching a show since the park frequently presents events with live music and various performances.

Stroll Through Myriad Botanical Gardens

The Myriad Botanical Gardens is a truly romantic location in Oklahoma City that’s a highly popular venue for weddings. If you take your date here, you can stroll through the 15-acre outdoor grounds of the gardens for free while admiring the beautiful plant life, flowers, and winding paths. If you’re lucky, you may even stumble onto one of the outdoor concerts regularly hosted in the gardens.

Those who want to experience something extra can pay a small fee to access the Crystal Bridge Tropical Conservatory, which includes waterfalls. You’ll probably want to get rid of a layer of clothing since the conservatory houses a very warm, tropical climate.

Enjoy Oklahoma River Cruises

From April to November, Oklahoma River Cruises offer boat rides with several scenic stops along the river. You can buy a ticket at the Regatta Park ticket booth or onboard and get on at several different points throughout the city, from Stockyards Landing to Bricktown.

If you’re looking for something a little more romantic and special, try catching one of the weekend Cocktail Cruises that run from June to September. You can take in evening views of the Boathouse District, the Wheeler Ferris Wheel, and the rest of the Oklahoma City skyline while sipping delicious drinks in the warm summer air. You must be 21 or over to board a Cocktail Cruise.

See a Game at Bricktown Ballpark

If you and your significant other are sports fans, there’s nothing better to do on a beautiful summer evening than catch a game at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. You can enjoy some classic ballgame snacks while watching the Minor League Baseball team, the Oklahoma City Dodgers, hit home runs. On chillier evenings, you can bring a blanket and snuggle up with your date while watching the players fly around the bases. If you enjoy simple, classic American fun, you’ll love planning a date night at the ballpark.

Visit the Oklahoma City Zoo

Though you may think of zoos as a family activity, the Oklahoma City Zoo is a pretty popular outdoor location for couples in the area. You can stop to feed giraffes and rhinos during the specially supervised feeding sessions offered by the zoo or marvel at the underwater wildlife at Stingray Bay.

If you want to take a break from walking, you can take a safari cart tour, which involves a two-hour experience that takes you through many of the zoo’s habitats. These tours must be reserved in advance. The zoo includes a wide range of exotic international animals in habitats such as the Lion Overlook and Sanctuary Asia, as well as the Great EscApe, which features primates. If you want to view wildlife that’s a little closer to home, check out Oklahoma Trails to get a glimpse of the big and small species native to Oklahoma.

Get Active With RIVERSPORT Adventures

Some couples like a little more adrenaline on their dates. If you like to be active and experience something new and adventurous with your partner, you can consider one or more of the many activities offered by RIVERSPORT Adventures. You can try kayaking and whitewater rafting or opt for a stand up paddle boarding experience if you want to take it a bit slower. For something more relaxing, check out Love’s Tubing, where you can splash down the rapids in a tube and just enjoy a good time without being too active.

At RIVERSPORT Adventures, you can also learn new sports and skills on dry land. For example, try the mountain bike skills course at the Bike Park to pick up a new hobby that you can use the next time you’re in the great outdoors.

Experience a Night of Art and Culture in the Paseo Arts District

Have you heard of First Friday? As the name suggests, this popular Oklahoma City Arts event takes place on the first Friday of every month. The galleries and artists in the Paseo Arts District stay open until late. From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. you can wander down the street with your partner and pop into various galleries along the way if they strike your fancy.

Whether you’re interested in paintings, sculptures, or handmade trinkets, you’ll find something to please you during your art walk. Best of all, while you and your partner enjoy an artsy, cultured night out, you’ll also be supporting the local Oklahoma City artists who participate in the event.
