February 17th, 2023 by

Finding the perfect car doesn’t have to be a challenge, especially when you’re looking to purchase a new Lexus. With such an incredible lineup of quality sedans, SUVs, and coupes, it’s no secret why Lexus continues to be one of the most well-known luxury car-makers in the world. If you’re on the hunt for a new Lexus, it’s important to learn as much information as possible about each model to determine which ones offer features that best align with your preferences.

Our team here at Eskridge Lexus of Oklahoma City has created this guide breaking down the different types of vehicles Lexus manufactures, including their typical sizes, features, and performance. With this information, you can easily narrow down your list of choices and confidently choose the perfect Lexus vehicle to meet your specific lifestyle wants and needs.

Which Lexus Car Fits You Best?

It’s important to note that Lexus categorizes their fleet using four distinct categories:

  • Luxury Sedans: This group contains vehicles that have a traditional sedan build. They’re distinguished by their powerful engines, comfortable cabins, and extensive safety features.
  • SUVs: The Lexus line of SUVs and Crossovers has seen significant growth in recent years, as utility vehicles increase in popularity. They’re distinguished by their all-wheel drive (AWD) drivetrain, spacious interior and cargo space, and off-roading abilities.
  • Coupe and performance: What Lexus refers to as their coupe and performance vehicles is what many would consider as sports cars. These are the pinnacle of Lexus luxury and emphasize the driving experience.
  • Hybrids: The market for hybrid vehicles has also expanded, with environmental consciousness more important than ever. Hybrid cars use a twin powertrain that combined a gasoline engine with an electric motor, producing fewer emissions.

Luxury Sedans

The current Lexus fleet includes three sedans, each of which has its own unique collection of features:

IS

The IS is Lexus’ entry-level compact sedan. It’s available in five trim levels, with the IS 300 being the standard. Models with rear-wheel drive (RWD) have an eight-speed automatic transmission, while AWD versions use a six-speed. Available engines include a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine, a 3.5-liter V-6, and a 5-liter V-8. This is a sportier sedan perfect for a single person looking to get around safely and in style.

ES

The ES is Lexus’ midsize sedan offering and comes in nine trims, with the entry-level model being the ES 250 AWD. There are two engines available on the ES, which are a 2.5-liter inline-four-cylinder engine and a 3.5-liter V-6 engine. This is a great option for someone looking for a comfortable and capable sedan that offers the luxuries the Lexus brand is known for.

LS

The final sedan model on the Lexus lineup is the LS, which is a full-size luxury sedan. It’s available in three trims, with the LS 500 RWD/AWD being the standard option. The LS uses a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 engine and a 10-speed automatic transmission. This vehicle is ideal for families looking for a spacious interior cabin while still traveling in a relatively compact vehicle.

SUVs

Lexus manufactures five SUVs and Crossovers:

UX

The UX is the entry-level subcompact crossover on the Lexus lineup and is available in four trim levels, with the UX 250h being the standard. Starting in 2023, the UX is no longer available with a gas engine and uses a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder hybrid engine. This is a great car for someone looking for a cost-effective and capable compact SUV.

NX

The NX is another compact crossover, with three non-hybrid trims. There are two engines available for the non-hybrid models on the NX lineup, which are a 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine and a turbocharged 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine. This vehicle is ideal for buyers looking for affordable but powerful compact crossovers.

RX

The RX is a midsize crossover and one of Lexus’ most popular models. It has five standard trim levels and comes in either FWD or AWD. A 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine gives this SUV the strength it needs to traverse through various terrains. This is a great option for drivers looking for a midsized SUV with a luxurious design.

GX

The GX is another midsize SUV that’s more than capable of handling off-road terrain. This vehicle comes in a single GX 460 trim and runs on a powerful 4.6-liter V-8 engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. This is a more classic Lexus model that hasn’t seen any major updates since 2009 and is ideal for drivers in search of a simple, capable SUV.

LX

The Lexus LX is the brand’s full-sized SUV, which comes in five trim levels, with the LX 600 being the standard. A twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 engine gives this vehicle the power it needs to traverse through all kinds of conditions. This is a great option for buyers looking for a large, spacious SUV.

Coupe and Performance

The current Lexus lineup features two coupe and performance vehicles:

RC

The Lexus RC is a two-door compact coupe. It’s available in four trim levels, with the RC 300 RWD/AWD being the standard. The RC comes in two engine options, which are a 2.0-liter inline-four-cylinder turbo engine and a 3.5-liter V-6. The RC can be a great option for someone looking for a sporty vehicle with a powerful engine and sleek exterior.

LC

The sportiest vehicle on the entire Lexus lineup is the LC, which comes as a coupe or convertible. There are three trims, with the LC 500 coupe being the standard. A 5-liter V-8 engine paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission gives this car all the power it needs to rule the road. The LC is the ideal vehicle for someone looking for a premier sports car experience.

Hybrids

Lexus offers hybrid options for many of its popular models, giving buyers the ability to make a more environmentally conscious decision when buying a new vehicle. Some of the aforementioned models that have hybrid options include:

  • ES.
  • LS.
  • UX.
  • NX.
  • RX.
  • LC.

With so many amazing options, it’s easy to understand the magnitude of a Lexus car-buyers decision. Whether you’re looking for a spacious and off-road capable SUV, an elegant and comfortable sedan, or a sporty and stylish coupe, Lexus has got you covered, offering various models of luxurious, capable, and reliable vehicles.
