The Wheeler Ferris Wheel

The Wheeler Ferris Wheel is the centerpiece of the new Wheeler District. Originally on the Santa Monica Boardwalk, it was recently relocated to Oklahoma City to provide some color and flair to the area. A Ferris wheel makes for a great Instagram background because it is dynamic and colorful. You can find different angles with a big backdrop, so there are plenty of possibilities for different photos in the same location. Even better, you can ride the Ferris wheel to make fun memories with your friends or family and have an excuse to get some great aerial shots.

Scissortail Park

Scissortail Park is an outdoor area that features a unique, 380-foot-long bridge above Interstate 40. The bridge’s sculpture was designed to resemble the tail of the Oklahoma state bird, the scissor-tailed flycatcher. The sculpture splits into two large points against the sky and rises above the walking bridge where you can pose for a picture. This site is excellent for taking photos because of the beauty of the lights and the structures.

While here, you can explore the park for other outdoor photo opportunities against the lawns and the city skyline backdrop. Scissortail Park is also a venue for many outdoor concerts and food trucks, so there are plenty of events that you can take pictures at to capture the atmosphere or showcase your cute picnic outfit for the gram.

Devon Tower

Devon Tower is the tallest building in Oklahoma City, perfect for shooting the skyline and capturing the cityscape backdrops. Having this impressive building in the background of your shots can make for memorable images unique to Oklahoma City. Having the city skyline in your photographs can also give your Instagram page a sophisticated and colorful look that others will want to emulate.

There are also locations inside the tower to take pictures at, like the restaurant on the 49th floor. The inside of Devon Tower has large, gorgeous windows through which you can see the whole city.

Lake Hefner Lighthouse

The Lake Hefner Lighthouse is a unique monument in a landlocked state. This 40-foot lighthouse, which was featured in Accidentally Wes Anderson for its adorable exterior, stands over Lake Hefner at the East Wharf. It was created in 1999 and has a classic coastal lighthouse look that is sure to impress your Instagram followers.

The lighthouse is surrounded by charming restaurants and the marina, so there are plenty of angles and other Instagrammable spots in the area. There are also water sports that you can try here, like kayaking and paddle boarding. You can find them at the end of Britton Road if you want to capture some beautiful, water-based photographs.

Tower Theatre

Tower Theatre is an old-school theater that was renovated in 2005 and currently functions as a working concert, film, and event venue. When they restored it, the owners smartly chose to keep the iconic neon sign that calls back to the early 20th century of going to sock hops and cruising down the main street. The gorgeous, authentic sign is an excellent backdrop for rustic or colorful photos with red and yellow lights and art deco style. As a bonus, you can attend a show or a dance party in your party clothes when you are done with your photoshoot.

Bricktown Canal

The Bricktown Canal is a human-made body of water in Oklahoma City that links downtown Oklahoma City, Bricktown, and the Oklahoma River. The water itself is beautiful and serene if you are looking for a curated and landscaped background for your Instagram pictures. With the whimsical Bricktown Water Taxi and annual special events, this canal has plenty of dynamic elements to keep your photos fresh and unique. There are also trails, green spaces, fun restaurants, and hot spots you can explore to spice up your photos here.

Plaza District

There are over 30 artists in the district, and the Plaza Walls Gallery works to ensure that the walls are constantly changing and updated. Regardless of your Instagram grid’s color scheme, you can find a mural or background that perfectly aligns with your look.
