Indoor Summer Fun in Oklahoma City

When summer hits, there’s no better time to gather your family and enjoy some time together. However, if you’re familiar with the temperatures in Oklahoma City, you probably know that they can get pretty high. The last thing your children might want to do is spend more time outside when temperatures reach triple digits. Instead, take your entire family and spend some time indoors this summer at one of these Oklahoma City locations.

Blue Zoo Aquarium

This interactive aquarium is the perfect spot if your children are hoping to get up close and personal with aquatic creatures. At Blue Zoo Aquarium, you can touch and feed stingrays, play at water tables, and watch as 6-foot sharks swim right past you. With the help of a certified dive instructor, you can also dive and see the sharks up close. Depending on the day, your family can also witness pirate and mermaid shows.

Hours: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Brickopolis

Opened in 2015, Brickopolis in Bricktown has three stories of indoor fun. On the first floor, you’ll find a place for children aged 10 and under where they can play arcade games. Moving up to the second floor, you and your party can enjoy some food at the Brickopolis Bar & Grill. The third floor contains the Extreme Fun zone with a laser tag arena and redemption games. Make sure to check out the Lazer Frenzy, which is an arcade-style maze attraction.

Hours: 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Monday, Thursday, and Sunday, and 11 to 12 a.m. on Sunday.

Bubba Play Indoor Playzone

Kids of all ages will enjoy exploring Bubba Play Indoor Playzone, which houses three levels of interactive fun. Scattered throughout the facility, plush stuffed animals create a whimsical and jungle-like environment. Your children can dive into the ball pit that contains 100,000 balls, slide down a three-level spiral tube slide, and join in games mounted on the wall. It even has a toddler area so little ones can have fun in an area geared toward them.

Hours: 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday; 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday; 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday; and 12 to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Get Air Trampoline Park

If you’re hoping to burn off some energy, Get Air Trampoline Park is a great place to visit. It has wall-to-wall trampolines, foam pits, and obstacle courses for your children to conquer. While the stated hours are for open jump, the facility offers special Toddler Time hours for toddlers under 46 inches and their parents and Club Air for jumpers taller than 46 inches. Those in Club Air must be at least 9 years of age or accompanied by an adult.

Hours: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Sunday; 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday; and 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday.

Myriad Botanical Gardens

You might not think botanical gardens are a great spot for children, but Myriad Botanical Gardens aims to change that belief. This 15-acre green escape contains a children’s area where kids can run, climb, and jump. Make sure to check its schedule of events to find regular events, workshops, and movies geared toward families. The best part? It’s free and open to the public.

Location: 301 W. Reno, Oklahoma City.

Hours: 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.

National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum

Billed as the country’s premier institution of Western history, culture, and art, the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum collects, preserves, and exhibits various renowned Western art and artifacts. More than 10 million visitors visit the museum each year to experience all it has to offer. Your kids can explore the Children’s Cowboy Corral, where they can dress up and participate in activities. They can also view weaponry and attire that people wore many decades ago.

Location: 1700 NE 63rd. St., Oklahoma City.

Hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Science Museum Oklahoma

As the state’s only hands-on science museum and one of the country’s largest science museums, Science Museum Oklahoma consists of almost 400,000 square feet of fun. It’s guaranteed to keep you and your family busy the entire day. You’ll find hundreds of activities throughout the building, particularly on the Science Floor, which includes a Segway Park, where you can drive on two wheels, and the Resonant Pendulum, where you can effortlessly move a 400-pound weight. Head over to the Tinkering Garage to design, create, and experiment in this space.

Hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Summit Climbing

Located in downtown Oklahoma City, Summit Climbing houses a 90-foot-tall climbing wall inside former grain silos. Converted in 1999, the silos now serve as a climbing gym. Inside, the gym has a climate-controlled environment, but when the weather cooperates, you can traverse the exterior along several climbing routes. Tackling these outside climbs provides you with stunning views of the downtown skyline. Remember that children under the age of 5 cannot take part in any of the programs or climbs.

Hours: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.
