With summer just around the corner, Oklahoma City locals are itching to get outside and enjoy the warmth and sunshine. We all know that OKC has plenty to offer in terms of entertainment, dining, and leisure, but what about outdoor aquatic activities? Oklahoma may be landlocked, but that doesn’t mean they don’t know how to have fun in the sun. It may surprise you to learn that the OKC area has several aquatic centers and water parks open to the public during summer.

Six Flags Hurricane Harbor Oklahoma City

The first spot on our list of the best water parks in OKC goes to no other than Hurricane Harbor Oklahoma City. This water park is owned and operated by Six Flags, one of the world’s leaders in theme park entertainment. Hurricane Harbor has become one of OKC’s most iconic attractions thanks to its assortment of water slides, zero-entry and wave pools, lazy rivers, splash pads, and more. Besides its aquatic activities, Hurricane Harbor also has its own dining and shopping locations, making it the perfect place to spend an entire day with loved ones.

This park is the perfect weekend excursion that the whole family can enjoy. Little ones can splash around in the Splashwater Island family play area while parents take time to relax down the Castaway Creek lazy river or float in the Caribbean Cove zero-entry pool. Those with an adventurous streak can experience the thrill of the park’s impressive slides, including the Dive Bomb, a high-speed free-fall slide. Keep in mind that, like most aquatic centers in the OKC area, Hurricane Harbor is closed during the off-season and typically reopens from May to September for the summer crowds.

Wake Zone Cable Park

The next spot on our list of the top four water parks near Oklahoma City is Wake Zone Cable Park. This unique water park is perfect for those wanting to experience the thrill of wakeboarding or simply jump around on the facility’s massive floating aqua park. Worried about your lack of wakeboarding experience interfering with your fun-filled water park day? Not to fear, as Wake Zone Cable Park has plenty of trained and knowledgeable staff working as instructors. They’ll get you set up with all the required equipment and teach you some basics before taking you out onto the lake.

Wake Zone Cable Park has fun activities for the whole family. Little ones ages 6 and up can spend their time playing across the aqua park’s giant inflatable playground and take turns jumping into the refreshing water during those hot summer months. Reservations aren’t necessary for either the Wake Park or Aqua Park, making this a perfect last-minute excursion. Be mindful that this park does not have lifeguards on duty, although staff provide all guests with a life jacket to wear throughout their time in the facility. Wake Zone Cable Park also hosts birthday parties, wakeboard lessons, and summer camps.

Pelican Bay Aquatic Center

Next on our list is the Pelican Bay Aquatic Center, located just 20 minutes from OKC in Edmond, Oklahoma. This park has plenty to offer its guests, including slides, pools, and splash pads. Pelican Bay Aquatic Center is a massive municipal leisure pool with fun features that your kids are sure to enjoy. Little ones can splash around the aquatic playground, fitted with automatic sprayers that your kids will absolutely love. The park also has two 150-foot water slides for the more adventurous park-goers, as well as diving boards, a current channel, climbing wall, and vortex slide.

Beyond their typical water park offerings, Pelican Bay also has some amenities that make this spot even more valuable on a hot summer day. The facility has bathhouses for those wanting to wash off the chlorine before heading home. They’ve also got a concession area known as the Pelican Bay Cafe Snack Bar, where you can enjoy theme park favorites like hot dogs, pizza, nachos, pretzels, and ice cream. Pelican Bay also offers a variety of swimming lessons, and guests can rent the facility for birthday parties and other events.

Earlywine Family Aquatic Center

The last spot on our list is the Earlywine Family Aquatic Center, located right in the middle of Oklahoma City. Earlywine is one of Oklahoma City’s designated family aquatic centers and, as such, the OKC parks and recreation department manages its upkeep and operations. Just because this is a public facility doesn’t mean it’s any less exciting than the other selections on our list. Earlywine has fun-filled activities that the entire family can enjoy, including their beach-entry pool, swimming lanes, and bubbling geysers.

Older kids and adults can enjoy some of this park’s more adventurous offerings, such as their impressive water slides. The park also has tumble buckets that little ones will want to use to dump water on their heads over and over. Earlywine has its own concession stands and is available for rent for birthday parties. Swimming lessons are available during the summer for children of all ages and swimming ability levels.
