Light displays are grand and spectacular to behold each year, and they’re perfect for getting into the festive spirit. Oklahoma City Tree Lighting Festival

Downtown in December hosts the Oklahoma City Tree Lighting Festival at the Mickey Mantle Plaza, located in the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. You can enjoy several performances before the city’s mayor, David Holt, lights the tree at 5:50 p.m. The event is free for all to attend and suitable for all ages. Bring your kids to experience kid-friendly activities like face painting and taking pictures with Santa.

Children can also write and mail their letters to Santa with the Letters to Santa station. At the station, kids can decorate downtown holiday-themed postcards that they can either take home or mail to someone. Some other events you can experience include:

• OKC Ballet.
• RACE Dance Collective’s Hip Hop Nutcracker.
• Lyric Theatre’s “A Christmas Carol” Cast.
• Sainrithya Dance Academy.

If you can’t attend the tree lighting, you can still view the lit tree through Christmas Day.

Oklahoma City Zoo’s Safari Lights

Oklahoma City Zoo’s Safari Lights is an exciting event to add to your calendar this holiday season. It’s a fun event for all ages where you can explore wildlife-themed light sculptures and animated light displays. There are also festive treats and visits from Santa, which is an additional fee. You can go on the safari from the comfort of your vehicle by taking the driving course. The drive-thru admission grants you one car entrance and up to four walk-through tickets. If you don’t want to take the drive-thru course, you can purchase walk-through admissions separately.

It’s $65 per vehicle, and you must complete the drive-thru before walking. Review the zoo’s drive-thru rules before going on your adventure. Walk-through tickets are $15 per person over the age of 3. Along the walking path, there will be plenty of photo opportunities to capture memories with your loved ones.

Lights on Broadway

Experience the magic of Lights on Broadway throughout the Christmas season in Automobile Alley. Explore the historic alleyway for the seventh annual holiday lights event. This year’s event is only two Saturdays this Christmas season. Some shops and restaurants will have stunning window displays for viewing. In addition to the window displays, there will be pop-up activities, giveaways, and sales promotions to enjoy. So while looking at the pretty lights and windows, you may even check a few gifts off your shopping list with the sales at local stores.

Lights on Broadway is a free, family-friendly event with plenty for everyone to enjoy, such as live music, balloon art, pictures with Santa, and many more performances. You’re sure to be in awe of the glittering lights lining the buildings and the window displays.

Dates: Dec. 3 and 10 from 4 to 7 p.m.

Union Station Illumination

Union Station Illumination at Scissortail Park is an inclusive mix of the season’s holidays. At the event, you can enjoy various light displays and music. Occasionally, the lights and music synchronize for a captivating performance. Throughout the park, there are many lights illuminating paths, a 40-foot-tall holiday tree, and a giant menorah. There are no tickets to purchase because it’s free for all.

Dates: Nov. 25 to Jan. 1 from 6 to 11 p.m.

Luminance: An Enchanted Stroll

Take a short 21-minute drive from the city to Edmond, Oklahoma, to see Luminance: An Enchanted Stroll in Mitch Park. It has over 30 interactive, 3D LED lights for you to enjoy, and you can walk through beautifully illuminated light tunnels and see lit trees and pavilions all around the park.

You can also visit the Merry Marketplace on Nov. 18 and Dec. 17, from 4 to 8 p.m. This market is a new holiday pop-up shop that will make its debut on Nov. 18, which is the first day of the Luminance event. The Merry Marketplace will feature various vendors with unique selections, so it’s the perfect place to browse and purchase a few gifts for those on your holiday list.

This event is free for all, and it’s just outside the city.

Holiday Lights Spectacular

The Holiday Lights Spectacular is a short 14-minute drive from Oklahoma City to Joe B. Barnes Regional Park in Midwest City, Oklahoma. This show offers you and your family a magnificent light display throughout the holiday season. You can expect to see over 100 different animated light displays and a 118-foot Christmas tree with 9,000 shining LED bulbs. You can drive through this display every day of the week except for Walking Wednesdays, which are for larger walking groups wanting to see the show.

On Walking Wednesday, you can experience the lights in a slower way than driving. This allows you more time to look at and appreciate the lights. This event is free for all those who want to attend, but you can donate to the show with a card, cash, or cash app payment.

Dates: Dec. 1 to 25, Sunday through Tuesday and Thursday from 6 to 10 p.m., Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 6 to 11 p.m., and Christmas Eve and Christmas Day from 6 to 11 p.m.
