2024 Lexus GX 550 Trim Comparison
Introduced in 2003, the GX is one of Lexus’ longest-standing and most admired vehicles. Now in its third generation, Lexus will release the 2024 GX 550 in six trim levels. Each has its own identity and price point, making the GX 550 an appealing midsize SUV regardless of your taste and budget. Here, we compare the latest trim levels to help you decide which 2024 Lexus GX 550 is right for you.
2024 Lexus GX 550 Premium

The Premium is the base model GX 550, but as its name suggests, it’s far from basic. Like the rest of the GX 550 line, it has a robust twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V-6 engine that generates 349 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque, making it more powerful than the V-8 motor of previous generations. Large 20-inch wheels, a sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats, a massive 10-speaker audio system, and an enormous 14-inch infotainment touch screen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are just some of the quality features you don’t usually see in base-trim SUVs.
The Premium is perfect for large families, with a three-row seating setup featuring a 60/40 split-folding bench in the second row. While the seating configuration is reminiscent of a minivan, the aggressively boxy exterior doesn’t play it safe like many family vehicles. Lexus also treats you to six USB-C ports so everyone can access device outlets. The GX 550 Premium has an impressive 8,000-pound towing capacity, allowing you to pull heavy utility trailers and campers easily.
You can take the Premium standard or add the Cold Area package to make everyone more comfortable during those chilly Oklahoma winters. The heated steering wheel and fast-response interior heater will help you feel toasty when the mercury dips, while headlight washers and a windshield wiper de-icer are practical perks to make your drive safer when ice and snow set in.
2024 Lexus GX 550 Premium+
The Lexus GX 550 Premium+ offers everything you’ll love about the Premium trim with extra special features to enhance your drive. The power-adjustable steering wheel and power-folding third-row seats create convenience at the touch of a button, while heated second-row outboard seats and ambient lighting make the cabin feel cozier and more inviting. You can also leave your cables at home, as it contains a wireless phone charger. This trim has Intuitive Parking Assist with Auto Braking and Rear Pedestrian Detection as standard for easier maneuvering into tight spaces.
You can enhance the 2024 Lexus GX 550 Premium+ with optional extras. If you don’t need seven seats, you can turn this SUV into a six-seater by swapping the heated bench seat for a second row of comfortable captain’s chairs, which are also heated. You can opt for a digital key to use your smartphone to lock, unlock, and operate your vehicle.
2024 Lexus GX 550 Luxury
The Lexus GX 550 Luxury further enhances the indulgence, featuring massaging seats in the front made from buttery semi-aniline leather to keep you relaxed even when traffic piles up. Passengers in the second row enjoy sunshades, and there are outside mirrors with puddle lamps. Lexus also upsizes the wheels to 22 inches. The Luxury loses a little pulling power, with a towing capacity of 6,990 pounds.
As with the Premium+, the second-row bench can become a row of heated captain’s chairs. Audiophiles will also love the option of a Mark Levinson 21-speaker audio system for authentic surround sound.
2024 Lexus GX 550 Luxury+
The Luxury+ trim lives up to its name by adding more features you’ll love. The Mark Levison audio system becomes standard, and the sunroof on the lower trims upgrades to panoramic. Adaptive dampers make the ride smoother, a digital rearview mirror and power-extending running boards make the vehicle feel ultra high-tech, and there’s even a cool box for your food and beverages. The Luxury+ can pull 6,780 pounds, which is the lowest towing capacity of the GX family but still enough for most motorists.
2024 Lexus GX 550 Overtrail
Brand new for 2024, the Overtrail trim is the best choice if you enjoy spending time off-road. It has many features for tackling rugged terrain, including tougher roof rails, a skid plate, and an electronic-kinetic dynamic suspension system that can disconnect the anti-roll bars. Specialty driving modes and the 3D multiterrain monitor system offer a helping hand on any trail. Its 18-inch wheels get 33-inch all-terrain tires for enhanced grip over challenging surfaces, such as sand, dirt, and mud. Like the Premium and Premium+, the Overtrail has an impressive towing capacity of 8,000 pounds.
Unlike the other GX 550’s, the Overtrail seats five in two rows. Its dimensions are identical to the other trims, so this level still feels incredibly spacious. With fewer seats, there’s no need for as many power outlets. You’ll find just four USB-C ports at this trim level, which is two less than the Premium and Luxury trims.
2024 Lexus GX 550 Overtrail+
The Overtrail+ is the top-of-the-line GX 550, combining the off-roading features of the regular Overtrail with the opulence of the Luxury trim. Off-roading can be bumpy, but Lexus does its best to keep you comfortable on the trails. The Overlander+ has a driver power cushion extender and massaging seats in the front and rear heated seats. The steering wheel is power-adjustable, and there’s ambient lighting to set the mood. Features such as a power-adjustable steering wheel and park assist are other upgrades over the standard Overtrail.
