2023 Lexus ES Hybrid vs LS Hybrid

If you’ve recently decided you want a Lexus hybrid sedan, you might want to know your options. Two of the automaker’s key hybrid vehicles are the ES and LS. Use this guide to learn more about what sets them apart, including engines and performance, infotainment systems, and safety features.

2023 Lexus ES Hybrid

A luxury midsize sedan, the 2023 Lexus ES Hybrid is one of the few hybrid options available in its class. The automaker also references this sedan as the 300h, one of the best all-around vehicles on the market. Not only does it provide a quiet cabin and an excellent ride, but it also delivers exceptional gas mileage considering its size.

2023 Lexus LS Hybrid

Also known as the 500h, the 2023 Lexus LS Hybrid is a luxurious large sedan that gives you a relaxing experience, whether behind the wheel or riding as a passenger. It’s available in a single trim, but you can add several upgrades to give the vehicle a bit more pizzazz. A few of these add-on features include optional paint colors, a metal interior trim, and special 20-inch wheels.

Exterior

The ES Hybrid comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, a sunroof, and LED headlights. The sedan has a hands-free trunk option to help you load and unload items in the trunk.

The LS Hybrid features 20-inch alloy wheels and LED headlights. It also includes the hands-free trunk. Enjoy some fresh air when you open the power sunroof.

Interior

Five people fit comfortably inside the ES Hybrid. The front seats are spacious and supportive, while many power adjustments make for comfortable traveling no matter how long the distance. Even your taller passengers riding in the back will benefit from plenty of legroom and headroom. The sedan also boasts one of the largest trunks in its class at 16.7 cubic feet. The trunk has a small pass-through as well.

The LS Hybrid has an ornate cabin with premium leather upholstery and four-zone climate control. Those riding in the front benefit from heated and ventilated seats, while those back seat passengers can use the power-reclining rear seats with memory function and heated seats. It has 13.9 cubic feet of cargo space.

Engine

The 2023 ES Hybrid has one powertrain available, but it packs plenty of power. Its four-cylinder engine, combined with a small lithium-ion battery pack and two electric motors, produces 215 horsepower. An electronic continuously variable automatic transmission is also included. The vehicle comes standard with front-wheel drive.

Power for the LS Hybrid comes from a 3.5-liter V-6 engine paired with two electric motors that produce 254 horsepower. This powertrain is mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission, and the vehicle comes standard with all-wheel drive.

Performance

The 2023 ES Hybrid is built for comfort when on the road. It easily glides over bumps and handles turns well. Its regenerative braking system, which slows the vehicle when you lift your foot off the accelerator and converts that energy to recharge the battery, is an excellent feature to have. According to the EPA, this sedan achieves 43 mpg in the city and 44 mpg on the highway.

According to Lexus, the LS Hybrid can go from zero to 60 mph in just 5.2 seconds. With this engine, you can expect it to achieve an EPA-estimated 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. These numbers are some of the best in its class. This sedan also has an adaptive air suspension that adjusts to enhance its ride comfort, height, and handling.

Infotainment

The automaker decided to update the infotainment system found in the 2023 ES Hybrid. It removed the finicky Remote Touch controller and added a responsive standard 8-inch or available 12.3-inch touch-screen display. New features include additional physical controls, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto connectivity. Additional standard features include satellite radio, Bluetooth, a 10-speaker stereo, several USB ports, voice recognition, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.

For the 2023 model year, the LS Hybrid also receives a fresh infotainment interface that includes a 12.3-inch center touch-screen display, replacing the outdated touch pad in earlier models. You can access several infotainment features, such as navigation and media, via voice commands. Fitted with wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto connectivity, and Amazon Alexa compatibility will keep everyone connected, while the navigation feature will help you get to your next Oklahoma City destination.

Safety Features

You’ll have difficulty finding another vehicle with as many standard driver-assistance features as the 2023 ES Hybrid. A few of the key features found in the Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 suite include the following:

  • Adaptive cruise control: This feature adjusts the speed to maintain a safe distance between the sedan and the vehicle in front.
  • Road-sign assist: This feature detects and brings to your attention certain road signs and displays them on the instrument panel.
  • Forward collision mitigation: This warns you if a front impact is about to occur and applies the brakes if you don’t respond quickly enough.

The LS Hybrid offers just as many standard safety features, so you can’t go wrong with either sedan when it comes to keeping everyone safe. Some of the most notable features include the following:

  • Surround-view parking camera system: This feature provides an aerial view of the sedan and its surroundings to help you with tight parking situations.
  • Active steering assistance: This corrects the sedan’s steering to avoid or minimize an impact if you don’t react in time.
  • Blind-spot intervention: If you try to change lanes and there’s a vehicle in your blind spot, this feature automatically steers the sedan back into your lane.
